Intro
Let us discuss the 10 Best Romantic TV Series English. Everybody likes to watch a feel-good cozy and romantic series once in a while, that makes them feel whole and gives them a sense of longingness. So without further ado, let’s get into it.
What is considered a romantic series
Well according to me a romantic series has to have set criteria which it has to fulfill, there has to be drama(and not of the toxic sort), just plain simple drama where there are unspoken gestures only lovers could relate to. Casual misunderstandings can be solved by retrospecting and reflecting on mistakes by a partner. In the end, both admit to their shortcomings and compromise for the sake of their love, sort of an unspoken rule.
Types of Romantic Series
There are different types of romantic genres out there, but rom-com(romantic comedy) is one of the most liked among viewers, while fantasy romance is more popular among viewers who like something out of the ordinary(let’s all admit, fantasy romance is much better), and the next is plain old romance drama.
10 Best Romantic Series
1. Mad About You (1922-1999)-8 Seasons: The only bad thing about this show is that it has ended. The day-to-day life of a New York married couple, Paul and Jamie Buchman. Mad About You is a perfect blend of comedy and romance with smart writing that fits perfectly to the cast of Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt in the lead role. This show has some amazing dialogue and pretty serious conversation moments which leaves us to want the exact same relationship as Paul and Jamie.
2. The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017)-8 Seasons: Wait! before you skip this, The Vampire Diaries is not just another cliche Vampire fantasy romance. This supernatural series features romance between Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) an average teenage girl who falls for a vampire named Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), who she thinks is just a normal human. A love triangle emerges as Stefan’s mysterious older brother Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) comes into the picture which gives rise to some pretty serious and intense moments of passion in the show with an equally great background playlist. Although it is an adaptation of the book of the same name, I believe that the show is much well written.
3. Virgin River (2019-Present) 4 Seasons: With an amazing cast, this show consists of a nurse and midwife Alexandra Breckenridge as Melinda “Mel” Monroe, a former U.S. Marine, presently a bar owner Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan, in the remote town of Virgin River. The characters are worth investing in with a dramatic and dark storyline.
4. Pushing Daisies (2007-2009) 2 Seasons: This is a rather short yet critically acclaimed show with the major praises mostly towards the cast, directing writing, and tone of the Series. Ned (Lee Pace) a restaurant owner has the special ability to resurrect dead people decides to reanimate his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte “Chuck” Charles, once again falling in love with her. A visually stunning and colorful set with amazing characters, and a witty and engaging storyline mark this as a great watch.
5. Sex Education (2019-Present) 3 Seasons: A story of a student at Moordale Secondary School Otis Milburn(Asa Butterfield). Brilliantly made, funny, and an emotional roller-coaster. Investing time in the characters makes you want to connect with them on a personal level thanks to the great writing of the show, takes you back to being a teenager again. Maeve (Emma Mackey) and Otis slowly getting closer to the subtle gestures and complex emotions between them are what make this show get onto the list of top 10 romantic series.
6. End of the Fucking World (2017-2019) 2 Seasons: The story is about two teenagers James (Alex Lawther), a 17-year-old who believes he is a psychopath, and her troubled classmate Alyssa (Jessica Barden) who sees him as an escape from home. An offbeat story, with a dark adult theme, both the actors playing these characters have a weird connection and great character development with James realizing he is falling in love with Alyssa.
7. The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022-Present) 1 Season: Romantic-drama story of a coming-of-age genre, with a love triangle between Lola Tung as Isabel “Belly” Conklin and two brothers. Stunning visuals and filming locations, casting done right which gave rise to amazing characters. Overall a feel-good series with quite interesting side characters.
8. Castle (2009-2016) 8 Seasons: Story about a “Detective” Beckett(Stana Katic) and a mystery novel writer Richard Castle(Nathan Fillion), a perfect balance between goofy comedy and romance-drama. This action-packed series involving dangerous situations makes the romance between these two characters even more interesting to watch.
9. Poldark (2015-2019) 5 Seasons: Historical-drama Television series by BBC revolving around Captain Ross Vennor Poldark(Aidan Turner). Full of action and intriguing romantic arch. this makes this a remarkable watch for a romantic-loving viewing audience who also have a taste for a historic period drama.
10. Sports Night: Regardless the Name Sports Night this is a series about sports anchors and their lives in the nightly program called ‘Sports Night‘. Starring Isaac Jaffe, Managing Editor (Robert Guillaume), surprisingly there is a lot of office romance happening in this show than in any other content I have recently seen.
